ATP: Nine years late: Becker later honoured at sports press ball

Boris Becker received the Pegasos Prize as a legend of sport at the sports press ball on Saturday evening in Frankfurt with a nine-year delay.

The three-time Wimbledon winner was unable to attend the 2008 event at the Alte Oper for scheduling reasons.

“The sport has made me what I am – in good times as well as bad,”said Becker after the handover of the white statue by ball organizer Jörg Müller. Late in the evening, extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner is to be honoured as a legend of sports in 2017.

The 49-year-old Becker had made it to the ball in time for the Main metropolis after playing in a poker tournament in the Czech Republic on Friday and Saturday.
