Gerald Melzer continues to circle in South America inexorably: The Lower Austrian beat Facundo Bagnis in two sets in the final of Guayaquil and scored 80 points for the world ranking in Lima, as he did weeks ago.
6:3 and 6:1 after 55 minutes – that was it for Gerald Melzer at the ATP-Challenger-Tournament in Guayaquil. Final opponent Facundo Bagnis was able to applaud the performance of the Lower Austrian single-handedly – as already last week in Lima. The Austrian Davis Cup player also won the title there without losing a set, taking 160 points in the world ranking from the last two weeks.
This will also be reflected in the rankings on Monday: Melzer will then be listed again as a member of the top 100 players in the world, at 99th position. Important also in terms of qualifying for the main draw at the Australian Open. Gerald Melzer has 68th place in his career-highest position in his vita.
In Guayaquil, Melzer had entered the tournament in seventh seeded position – and in the final against Bagnis, he did not have to defend himself against a single break ball, but in turn took the serve of his opponent four times.
