ATP: Roger Federer regrets (almost) nothing

Roger Federer on thought games about ranking, his Paris rejection and the moment of the year he regrets.

After his Paris cancellation, it was clear: Rafael Nadal will take the world’s number one into the coming season with a victory either there or in London – which is now also the case after his opening success.

However, Federer made it clear that he was still aiming for the top spot. Not to play Paris “should not mean that I am no longer interested in the number 1,”he said a few days ago. If I had been closer to Rafa, it might have played a role if I had been closer to Rafa. But my body needs rest now. With regard to the Masters and the coming season, I can’t take any risks,”Federer continues.

Despite two major victories this year, Federer is “only” number two, but I was surprised to see that he is “only” number two “, and at first I thought that if I won two Grand Slam titles, I would also be number one. But Rafa did it better,”Federer made it clear that the top spot wasn’t everything,” but if number 1 had been the number one priority, I would have played Paris rather than Basel.

But for a moment in 2017, the Swiss regrets the injury in the Montréal final against Alexander Zverev:”It was really unfortunate to get injured when I was in good shape. And that I had to cancel Cincinnati, a tournament that always suits me well,” Especially since Federer could have reached the number 1 again if there had been a good result.
