WTA: Görges, Vandeweghe, Barty to Zhuhai with a career-high

The women’s event in Zhuhai has closed the circle of the year on the WTA tour.

If you can’t wait to find out about the shifts in the rankings before the tennis world rankings are announced on Monday morning, you can read up on the relevant websites. Every match result is immediately reflected in the results – even the most optimistic tournament sequences are taken into account. Particular attention should be paid to the “NHP” designation – this stands for “Latest Highest Career Placement”. After the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, several ladies were marked like that.

Coco Vandeweghe, for example, the final loser, is the youngest member of the top ten to overwinter in winter. Julia Görges has also outdone herself with her second tournament success in 2017 after Moscow, the 29-year-old is now in 14th position.

Ashleigh Barty, who failed in the semi-finals at Vandeweghe in Zhuhai, is ranked 17th, Magdalena Rybarikova is number 20. Angelique Kerber, who started the year as the best in the industry, is one place behind Rybarikova. The rankings are led by Simona Halep with only 40 points ahead of Garbine Muguruza.

Best Austrian remains Barbara Haas in 171st place.
