Scotsman Andy Murray has returned to the tennis court after several months of injury and has fought a fun duel with Roger Federer at a charity match in Glasgow.
The best of Scotland is back on the tennis court and has brought a prominent guest. Andy Murray gave his “Mini”comeback at a charity match for a good cause against Roger Federer. The two superstars met in Zurich last April and enraptured the spectators with great show tennis at Federer’s invitation to his home country.
This year, Murray has not been on a tennis court since July of this year, after he announced his seasonal exit due to a hip injury.
Now, after a few days of training in his home country, he has once again swung the bat on the big stage and delivered an amusing duel with “FedEx”. Murray’s brother Jamie and tennis legends Tim Henman and Mansour Bahrami also paid homage to Murray and hit a few balls.
One thing was clear to the Scotsman: at the beginning of the match, Murray was even more hip stiffer than he already is. The focus was clearly on the damaged hip not to put too much strain on it and to slowly find the rhythm again. The longer the match lasted, the smoother the 30-year-old’s movement became.
Federer, on the other hand, is on top physical level and took the tempo from his punches to keep Murray from straining too much. Nevertheless, it was amusing – and first-class tennis with a good portion of fun and games was also offered. In the end, Roger Federer was ahead – as in April – and won the duel 6-3,3-6 and 10-6 in the match tiebreak.
During the game, the players were asked to use the microphone several times to say a few words. Especially Federer was very pleased that Murray can stand on the court again:”I am very happy to see him here on the court. And I’m happy that he’s healthy and moves well – he even plays really well. It’s good to have him back; he’s an important part of the tour,”said FedEx. Murray was also pleased with his recovery:”I am surprised that things are already going so well. Of course I’m still a bit rusty, but I’ve already won a few great points, especially when Roger was on the net,”added the local hero.
After the singles, legend Tim Henman and trickshot master Mansour Bahrami fought a generational duel with Murray and his brother, the double specialist Jamie. The show was clearly attracted by the “man behind the schnauzer”. Bahrami made the audience and his opponents laugh with curious strokes and constant gossip. And they also proved that all four protagonists can play tennis really well. The most important thing that night, however, was: Andy Murray is back on the tennis court and ready for the new season.
