ATP: Bresnik:”Change of scenery is nonsense”

Günter Bresnik comments on Dominic Thiem’s formal crisis and explains why a change of coach would be pointless.

No, it doesn’t really work like this in the autumn of 2017 with Dominic Thiem. The Lichtenwörther won only two of his seven games after the US Open; before the Masters in Paris, a time-out was considered because of a long injury, but then rejected. Thiem is still ranked fourth in the ranking, but coach Bresnik is “much more than I had expected at the start of the season”, as he explained in a conversation with kurier. at,”On the other hand, I am disappointed because third place would have been possible. He has lost several games as a better player. But this course is a milestone for Austria’s tennis sport. Dominic has worked and earned this”, Bresnik continues.

The fact that Thiem has risen right now is due to the 52 week world ranking system, for many half-experts a book with seven seals. But in sports, they all talk because they think they know their way around. In sports, everyone talks with Dodel.”

Thiems’ shape crisis itself has several reasons, according to the success coach. Too many changes of surface, sometimes bad training performances, sometimes bitter defeats, lastly a toe injury, but which has healed.

The coach-pupil-relationship between him and Theim is “like a father-son-relationship”, which grows with age:”At the beginning it’s about giving a child the flasklet, at the age of 20 one advises him which studies he should do. A change of scenery, as always stimulated by critics, is not an issue “I know Dominic, he knows me. This is not the case with a new coach.”
