Golf: Martin Kaymer in third place in South Africa

Martin Kaymer can dream of his first Tour victory since his triumph in 2014 at the US Open.

The former world number one from Mettmann played a 69 on Saturday at the third round of the tournament in Sun City, South Africa, advancing from eighth to third place with 211 strokes. Kaymer has won eleven times on the European Tour so far.

Kaymer’s flight partner Scott Jamieson was at the top of the leaderboard ahead of the last 18 holes. The Scotsman needed 67 strokes and led the standings with 208 strokes.

Kaymer is the only German starter in Sun City with a 7.5 million dollar competition. His only top-10 finish of the season so far has been a fourth place finish in Abu Dhabi in January.

In recent years, the shape of the Rhinelander has steadily declined. In the world ranking list, he is now only in 83rd place.
