Winter sports: Gasser triumphs at the World Cup season opener in Milan

World Cup defending champion Anna Gasser has won the World Cup opener in the Big Air. Last year’s winner and world champion won clearly ahead of Katie Ormerod from Great Britain and Sina Candrian from Switzerland on Saturday in Milan.

Austria’s sportswoman of the year underpinned her favourites status for the Olympic premiere of the snowboard freestyle discipline in South Korea in February.

Clemens Millauer (15th), Alois Lindmoser (28th) and Philipp Kundratitz (43rd) were eliminated in the qualification. The next big air station is Beijing the weekend after next weekend.
