Despite four victories in a direct duel, Roger Federer is not the greatest of all time for Andre Agassi. The US legend continues to place the Swiss behind permanent rival Rafael Nadal.
“Now I see everything from a different perspective, including tennis,”Agassi confesses in a detailed conversation with the Swiss media. As a player, he didn’t feel any pressure, just stress. With the move to the Novak Djokovic support team, this is now completely reversed.
Agassi, however, is not willing to change his mind when asked about the biggest player of all time:”I choose Nadal, not Federer,”the 47-year-old had already decided four years ago. Main argument:”A player can’t be considered the greatest if someone else has hit him so many times.”
The fact that the Spaniard’s draw with Federer in the last five comparisons is only of secondary importance for Agassi – after all, Nadal still leads the balance sheet at 23:15.
He doesn’t want to diminish the Swiss player’s performance, however,”he plays the game so differently. It all looks so easy, which I don’t mean to say it is. But he has so many options that he can reduce the wear and tear enormously. It speaks for its uniqueness – I would even use the word “grandeur”, Agassi von Federer’s constancy raves even into the high tennis age.
But that doesn’t change his conclusion:”Federer is unique, but Nadal remains the best for me.”
