Jack Sock won the semi-finals at the Nitto ATP finals in London with a win over Marin Cilic. However, the night before his match was interrupted by an incident.
At four o’ clock in the night, the American was torn from his sleep by a loud noise. The hotel’s fire alarm had gone off and caused deafening noise – as is envisaged in the case of a fire:”It was one of the most annoying and unpleasant noises I have ever heard in my life,”the 25-year-old told the press the following day.
Not only the guest at the inofficial Men’s World Championships in London was affected by the fire alarm,”We were on the second floor and directly at the source of the noise – it was unbearable. As I went outside, I saw Rafa (Rafael Nadal, Red.) and Domi (Dominic Thiem, Red.) in the open air and it was very cold. Everyone just wanted to go back in,”added Sock.
Sock could not estimate whether it was a false alarm or just a hotel practice. However, it was a “really miserable situation”, said the man from Kansas City, Missouri.
But the short night did not detract from his fighting spirit. After the opening defeat against Roger Federer, Sock bite Cilic and clinched his first win in the top eight tournament with a 5:7,6:2 and 7:6 (4). Next Thursday, Sock will fight German Alexander Zverev (in the live ticker on tennisnet. com) in a direct duel for the ticket to the semi-finals. Federer has already qualified for the round of the last four with two victories, Cilic is already out of the race after two defeats.
