ATP: Federer:”A fantastic year”

Roger Federer made an incredible comeback in 2017 and secured seven titles, including his eighth Wimbledon triumph. The Swiss is apparently completely satisfied with himself and his body.

The “Maestro” can be satisfied with himself – this can be said with a clear conscience. Two Grand Slam titles and three Masters-1000 triumphs are only part of the Swiss’s great success in 2017. The semi-final loss at the Nitto ATP World Tour Finals against David Goffin was only a small bend in the sensational comeback season – as “FedEx” also sees it:”I’m very well prepared. I’ve tried everything. It was also such a fantastic year,”said the world rankings runner-up after his retirement in London.

The most positive aspect of the 2017 season for Federer is that his body was fit at all times. Only in the final in Montréal, which he lost to Alexander Zverev, did he suffer from back pain, according to Federer. The after-effects of the US Open were also long in his bones:”I felt my back for a relatively long time after the US Open. That’s why I’m glad I ended the year well,”admitted the 36-year-old. The subsequent recovery seemed to have worked. In Basel And at the Masters in Shanghai, the Swiss rider triumphed and secured six and seven season titles. In a total of 57 matches, Federer emerged victorious 52 times – an outstanding result. Federer could have played even more tournaments. Again and again the 19 times Grand Slam Champion allowed himself phases of rest and cancelled his start at tournaments. The superstar completed twelve official tournaments, opponent Rafael Nadal competed in 18 tournaments.

Next year, as in 2017, Federer will be back at the Hopman Cup in Perth,”The time in Australia at the beginning of the year was perhaps the best of my career,”Federer added. It is not yet clear whether the missed clay court season will have to leave Switzerland’s schedule next year:”We will see. The planning can be similar to this year’s – or quite different.”
