Former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard has issued a deficient seasonal certificate. After a disappointing season, the Canadian is now only 81st in the world rankings.
In 2017 everything was supposed to be better for “genius” Bouchard – the opposite was the case. The former fifth place in the world rankings only won three games in their last eleven tournament participations, only the performances in Sydney (semi-final) and at the Mandatory in Madrid (quarter-final) reminded of former glory days.
“This year was probably the worst since I’ve been on tour. I was very disappointed in myself,”said Bouchard The Montreal Gazette. In her conclusion of the season, the 23-year-old referred to recurrent injury problems that gnawed at her self-confidence.
As an excuse, however, this is not at all a good excuse:”At the end of the day I just didn’t play as well as I would have liked. Now I have to look ahead and do better.”
Away from the square, Bouchard made a lot of headlines: Whether with permissive photo shots for Sports Illustrated, a redeemed Super Bowl bet with a fan or numerous social media impressions from her spare time – “Genie” remained in conversation.
“Everything is normal,”Bouchard sums up her activities in the social networks,”Even if I were not a public person, I would behave like this. My friends and family do the same thing, it’s natural. We wake up, drink a breakfast juice and divide that on instagram. I’m just myself and doing what everyone else does.”
