Tennis icon Billie Jean King has turned out to be a fan of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The twelve-time Grand Slam winner dreams of “meeting Angela Merkel at some point. She’s a heroine to me,”King told the magazine “A world-renowned head of government and an example of what a woman can achieve”.
Merkel even creates sentimental thoughts for the 74-year-old American. If she were twelve years old today,”I would dream of becoming U. S. President.” Great dreams are important,”especially at an age when we still have so many opportunities ahead of us.”
King disagrees with Donald Trump as US President. The election of Trump “was a nightmare for everyone concerned about equality and respectful coexistence”. King hopes that “Trump’s disastrous term of office” will lead to many young voters, in particular, who have stayed out of the 2016 presidential election, voting in next year’s US Congress elections. Then this nightmare would have led to “something good”.
King lives openly lesbian and has been working for many years for the equal rights of women and men. In 1973 she founded today’s Womens Tennis Association (WTA).
