WTA: Tomljanovic – Comeback with and from Nick Kyrgios?

Ajla Tomljanovic is on her way back to the top 100. An old acquaintance – and partner Nick Kyrgios is standing by her side at the moment.

In the official WTA world ranking, Ajla Tomljanovic is listed as a Croatian, the 24-year-old was finally born in Zagreb. At least the organisers of the Grand Slam tournaments have not remained unaware of the fact that the focus of the injury-hit right-handed woman’s life had already shifted to Down Under years ago: Tomljanovic will be competing for Australia there.

And this fact could help her now – Tennis Australia has some exciting wildcards to offer, especially one for the first major of the year in Melbourne. In recent weeks, Ajla Tomljanovic has collected good arguments for this.

After the ITF tournament in Waco (Texas), where she was defeated in the final Tyalor Townsend, Tomljanovic is once again in 136th place of the women’s rankings. And this after starting the current campaign well above rank 900. As career best performance, the company is ranked 47th from February 2015.

This week Tomljanovic hits Hawaii – with an interesting accompaniment: Nick Kyrgios, according to the American tennis channel, is said to have joined his ex-girlfriend again. Last summer Kyrgios and Tomljanovic are said to have split up last summer, a difficult week for the Croatian-born player, who had to interrupt another comeback attempt due to shoulder problems in the match against Coco Vandeweghe in Stanford, for example.

Kyrgios, on the other hand, has only sporadically shone after his final draw in Cincinnati, finishing the season at 21st position in the world. Basically a wonderful occasion to take a break in a holiday region. However, judging objectively by the potential of Australia’s number one, this is a disappointment. In Hawaii, Kyrgios is said to have hit balls with Tomljanovic in the best of moods. Just like not so old times.
