ATP: The endurance runner still has not had enough

David Ferrer belongs in a positive sense to the old iron of the ATP tour. Even after more than 17 years on the big tennis stage, the Spaniard still has fun and wants to continue racing across the world’s courts.

The endurance runner from Spain still wants to know. Ferrer has been on tour for over 17 years and has become an absolute darling of the public. With discipline and great respect for his opponents, he fought down some of the top stars and brought his opponents to despair as a living ball wall.

Even at the age of 36, the man from Spain is not yet thinking about a career end:”The goal for the coming year will be to have no goal. I want to think from week to week and enjoy every match,”said Ferrer at EFE.

The past season did not run according to the Spaniard’s ideas, but the former number three was not discouraged, and at the end of the year he had a positive 24:21 match record. After a messed-up start to 2017, Ferrer improved his form and won his 27th place. We didn’t start as we had imagined, but in the summer I won Bastad and reached the semi-finals in Cincinnati,”added the 35-year-old.

In the ranking, the ex-French Open finalist was ranked 37th. But Ferrer also draws something positive from this damper:”It was my worst year in terms of ranking. Nevertheless, I finished the year in the top 40 and would like to tackle the new season in a positive way,”says Ferrer.

The “Sandplatzwühler” played his best tennis in the calendar year 2012 and 2013, reached the finals of Roland Garros and secured a total of nine titles – including the crown at the Masters in Paris-Bércy. In the past few months Ferrer have been plagued by injuries and forced the fighter nature to cancel several tournaments. In the year 2018 it should run better for the permanent guest of the ATP tour.
