ATP: Feliciano Lopez becomes Tournament Director in Madrid

New position for Feliciano Lopez: The 36-year-old Spaniard will take over as Tournament Director at the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament in Madrid from 2019.

Tommy Haas has recently successfully demonstrated that the transition from active player to functionary can proceed smoothly. While the 39-year-old from Hamburg, Germany, ended his professional career in the past season quietly, he was already in office and dignity as tournament director in Indian Wells.

Feliciano Lopez is now following a very similar path. The current number 36 in the world will be assisted by Manolo Santana in the new tennis year, before he finally succeeds the Spanish tennis legend in 2019 as Tournament Director in Madrid.

Whether Lopez will also play actively for world ranking points was left open to the experienced player.
