MLB: Marlins superstar Giancarlo Stanton ahead of Trade to New York Yankees

The Monstertrade from Giancarlo Stanton to the New York Yankees seems to be perfect: the most expensive player of all time and home run leader of the past season is to change from the Miami Marlins to the Bronx according to several media reports. The Yankees would have put together a terrifying lineup.

Stanton had beaten 59 home runs in the past 2017 season. No player has been able to do this since 2001. The 28-year-old Slugger had also been voted the most valuable player of the National League, but missed the playoffs with his Marlins.

After a group led by the former Yankee legend Derek Jeter bought the team, there was growing evidence of a change: Jeter wants to start a complete rebuild and drastically reduce payroll expenditure in Miami. Audience darling Stanton simply doesn’t fit into the picture any more: A few years ago he had signed a contract for an unbelievable 13 years and 325 million dollars – the most expensive contract in the history of the league. In the next ten years, 295 million of this amount is still outstanding.

The Yankees will probably take over a large part of this: Stanton has a No-Trade-Clause in his contract, so he can veto trades. That’s why trades with the San Francisco Giants and St. Giants. Louis Cardinals failed. According to media reports, however, Stanton would agree to a trade deal with the Yankees.

The Marlins would take over a total of 30 million dollars of the outstanding amount and in return receive infielder Starlin Castro and the young talents Jorge Guzman and Jose Devers, it is said.

After the Yankees had to let the Japanese supertalent Shohei Ohtani move to the Los Angeles Angels, they made a real coup with Stanton: Together with Aaron Judge, the team that missed the World Series by only one game would have signed the two best homerun hitter in the league. This would make the record champion 2018 one of the clear favorites for the World Series.
