ATP: Marin Cilic and coach Jonas Björkman go their separate ways

Former US Open winner Marin Cilic and his Swedish coach Jonas Björkman go their separate ways. The duo had only started working together 16 months ago.

It was certainly not a bad season for Marin Cilic, who finished sixth in the world rankings. The final in Wimbledon is remembered as the painfully afflicted Croatian lost to Roger Federer in tears.

In addition, Cilic triumphed in Istanbul and was ranked fourth in October – more than ever before in his career. However, the season finale was disappointing: the 29-year-old lost all three group matches in London, missing the semi-final for the second time in a row.

Obviously not enough for the high demands of the 2014 US Open Champion. Via Twitter, Cilic announced that the collaboration with Björkman will be finished after 16 months together. Former number one in the double world ranking had joined Team Cilic in 2016, having previously been a member of Andy Murray’s support staff.
