ATP: Ferrero – “Zverev can make it to number one”

Alexander Zverev has the potential to become the world’s number one. And Roger Federer only plays because he enjoys it. Juan Carlos Ferrero is convinced of this.

The collaboration between Juan Carlos Ferrero and Alexander Zverev couldn’t have started better: the Spaniard was sitting next to father Alexander sr. at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Washington for the first time. in the box of the German number one, Sascha promptly won the tournament. And a week later, in Montréal, he took home the second Masters-1000 title of his career, in the final against Roger Federer. The weeks after that, Team Zverev was not completely satisfied with the results – especially not at the US Open with the bitter outbreak against Borna Coric – but at the end of the year, fourth place in the world rankings was still due. A milestone in the career of Alexander Zverev.

Sascha is a top player in the world and has focused on becoming mentally stronger and on dealing with the increased pressure during the last few weeks of the season,”Ferrero told IBTimes UK,” Zverev is very ambitious and the results have arrived earlier than expected. Because he can get there.”

I have been working with young players in my academy for a long time, the JC Ferrero Equelite,”said the former industry leader,” It’s certainly a dream to become the Davis Cup captain of Spain, but when I was offered the position, I had a commitment to Sascha. We’re working really hard, and I hope we can continue this for a long time.”

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal also dominated the past season. Against the Swiss player Ferrero played 13 matches in his active time on the ATP Tour, only three of them won,”Roger’s season was one of his best I can remember,”Ferrero said,”especially considering how few tournaments he has played. Federer knows his possibilities and limitations better than any other player, knows how to divide his tournament schedule wisely.

The key to the 36-year-old’s second place in the world rankings, however, was something else from within Juan Carlo Ferrero:”Roger Federer concentrated more on enjoying rather than winning. He doesn’t carry that much weight on his shoulders anymore.”
