WTA: Görges:”By far the best year of my career”

Julia Görges drew a positive conclusion after her most successful season to date:”This was by far the best year of my career,”said the 29-year-old in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

According to Görges, who climbed to 14th place after her triumph at the B-World Championships in Zhuhai, she is not only concerned with the world rankings position, but has never been so high before.

In 2017, Görges reaped the rewards for her new start in 2015, when she moved from Bad Oldesloe to Regensburg and changed her coach team:”I had consistent performances throughout the year and have continued to develop each month. I had the feeling on the court that every two or three months something new came along and it worked. The automatisms suddenly took hold,”said Germany’s best female tennis player at the moment.

In retrospect, Görges describes the move and the change of coach as the right step:”I had also been successful before, but differently. I just wanted to hear a new voice. With a new team. I knew I had the potential. And I wanted to find it again and make full use of it,”said Görges, who had been ranked number 54 at the beginning of the season.
