Boxing: Battle between Mayweather and McGregor misses pay-per-view record

The boxing match between former world champion Floyd Mayweather and UFC superstar Conor McGregor has missed the pay-per-view record revenue. Nevertheless, the gigantic sum of more than 600 million dollars was turned over during the fight.

Organizer Showtime now announced that 4.3 million pay-per-views were sold in the USA during the highly anticipated fight between the boxer and the mixed martial artist. This resulted in a total sum of over 600 million dollars.

In the all-time highscore, the event ranks second behind the 2015 battle between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. At that time, 4.6 million pay-per-views had been sold, and total revenues were also above the Mayweather-McGregor battle.

Previously, it had already been announced that on-the-spot revenue at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas had landed at over $55 million, ranking second behind Mayweather-Pacquiao (over $72 million).

Floyd Mayweather had already finished his career before the fight against McGregor, but had returned to the ring for the show fight. Most recently, he had speculated once again about another comeback. They called me recently and asked me if I wanted to come back,”ESPN quotes him,” If I wanted to, I could come back to the UFC. I can make a deal for three or four fights and get a billion dollars. Don’t forget, I’m Floyd’ Money’ Mayweather.”

He had already explained that he “wore” McGregor in the fight to give the spectators a good show and said,”In the end I’m the best athlete of all time,”he emphasized,”You heard right. No one was better than me.”
