Tennis pro, Grand Slam winner and now a college graduate: Sloane Stephens holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Indiana University East.
“To hold the testimony in my hands is a great moment in my life,”said the current US Open winner in the graduation process,”Education has always been important to me and my family. I am pleased to have worked so closely with WTA and Indiana University East to make this possible.”
Stephens was part of a partnership program that WTA has with the University of Richmond. Currently, 20 WTA players are enrolled in distance learning courses at the educational institution.
Although many of the courses were held online, Stephens was also on the spot at one time or another,”I enjoyed coming to campus and meeting new people who helped me get my diploma.”
The 24-year-old is the fifth female player to have graduated from university as part of the programme. The best-known colleague is Venus Williams, but also Alla Kudryavtseva, Irina Falconi and Katalin Marosi are now “Bachelorettes”.
