WTA: Petra Kvitova:”I have begun to love my new hand”

One year after the bad knife attack by a burglar Petra Kvitova has found new courage. The two-time Wimbledon champion wants to attack the top again in 2018.

It was one of the most emotional moments of the year when Petra Kvitova returned to the big tennis stage at the French Open. Whoever has seen the utterly destroyed batting hand of the sympathetic Czech will know that the continuation of her career was hanging by a thread.

Fortunately, everything turned out well: After her comeback in May, Kvitova won the lawn tournament in Birmingham, scored a top performance against Garbine Muguruza at the US Open and finished the season in 29th place in the extended world lead.

“This year was a real roller coaster ride. The beginning wasn’t very nice, so I’m glad it’s over now,”said the 27-year-old in an interview with The Guardian. The many emotions surrounding her comeback were not easy to process,”but I have seen that I can still keep up – that was the most important thing for me,”Kvitova continues.

In 2018, the former world rankings runner-up wants to continue its upward trend. Also because the trust in my own body is back:”I started to live with my new hand. Started to like and love them. It’s my hand, and I’m glad to have all my fingers on it.”

But the healing process is far from complete “It will probably take more than a year before full mobility is restored. I hope that as time goes by I will become stronger and stronger,”says Kvitova.
