Grigor Dimitrov has been voted Balkan athlete of the year and has relegated his colleague Simona Halep to second place.
Grigor Dimitrov gets the well-deserved reward for his great season. The Bulgarian was elected Balkan Athlete of the Year. He also outperformed his colleague Simona Halep. The world number one from Romania received 60 points in the vote, winner Dimitrov two points more.
The 26-year-old played the best tennis of his career last season and celebrated the biggest tournament success so far. At the Nitto ATP World Tour Finals, Dimitrov set an exclamation point ahead of the competition and won the tournament for the best eight players of the season. He also won the tournament in Brisbane, Sofia and his first Masters title in Cincinnati.
“Hard work pays off and produces great results,”explained the winner after the award ceremony. Number three thanked the world of his family and his team of coaches:”It was a tough year. Endurance, confidence and absolute commitment are the keys to success,”added Dimitrov.
Next season, the right-hander will reopen in Brisbane, trying to defend his title.
