Australian Open: Setback for Murray: Comeback plans for Melbourne delayed

Andy Murray is in a race against time. It remains to be seen whether the former world number one gets fit in time for the Australian Open.

Involuntary plan change at Andy Murray’ s: The 30-year-old Scotsman actually wanted to travel to Australia before Christmas to prepare for the Grand Slam opening in Melbourne. According to the Daily Mail, however, the departure had to be postponed because the three-time Major Champion is still struggling with hip problems.

Murray only returned from Miami last Tuesday, where he had been working on his fitness with coach Jamie Delgado. Time is running out, the new season starts in just ten days.

The planned appearance at the preparatory tournament in Brisbane (from 1. January) is not in danger. Murray will later travel to Australia and try to start there, according to his management.

Suffering comrade Stan Wawrinka also left it open whether he could compete at the Australian Open. Since Wimbledon, the Swiss and the British couldn’t play any more matches on the tour.
