David Goffin does not have a particularly high opinion of Nick Kyrgios’ view of his profession. The seventh place in the world rankings even describes the Australian as a bad role model for young talent.
Two characters can hardly be more contrasting than this: the calm, level-headed Belgian, who writes exclusively sporting headlines, is contrasted by an unpredictable hotspur, whose outstanding tennis skills are often overshadowed by escapades outside the court.
If you look at the seasonal comparison, Goffin is clearly ahead of the pack. The compelling arguments from the 27-year-old’s point of view: participation in the final of the ATP finals and the Davis Cup as well as the first year-end in the top ten.
Kyrgios, on the other hand, has to make do with 21st place in the final payroll. It looks better with the direct comparison: here the 22-year-old leads with 3:1. The last match of the unequal rivals, however, went to the Belgian – in the Davis Cup semi-final 2017 “La Goff” won in four sets.
In an interview with TennisActu, Goffin made it clear how big the differences with Kyrgios are when it comes to setting an example,”I think I have a good attitude to be successful. If the young player has a positive influence, the better.”
He came to the top, but I don’t think he is a good role model for the Australian offspring. He has his way of working and it works. Nevertheless, people want to see more players like me,”Goffin emphasized.
