WTA: Elina Svitolina triumphs in Brisbane

Elina Svitolina is the first winner of the WTA Tour 2018. In Brisbane, the third-placed Ukrainian won in two sets against Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

With her 6-2, -6-1 win over the Belarusian qualifier, Svitolina secured her first-ever success at a premier event. Last year, the new number four in the world won three Premier 5 tournaments – a feat that no other player had ever achieved before.

Sasnovich, who was able to turn a set gap three times in the course of the tournament, could clearly notice the strains in her eighth match. The 23-year-old did not manage to build on the strong performances of the previous rounds. So Svitolina had little trouble, the first comparison with the world rankings-88. to decide for himself.
