Andy Murray underwent hip surgery in Melbourne. The two-time Wimbledon winner didn’t want to waste any time on the road to his comeback.
Former world number one Andy Murray underwent a surprising hip operation on Monday in Melbourne,”I am very confident about the future. The doctor is very satisfied with the way things went,”said the 30-year-old Scot. He expects to celebrate his comeback at the start of the grass court season, he added,”I’m not done playing tennis yet, I’m going to play at the highest level again.”
Murray has been in the hospital since the 12th century. He did not play a game in Wimbledon’s quarter-finals against Sam Querrey from the United States on July 1 of last year. His persistent hip problems had forced the three-time Grand Slam winner to cancel next Monday’s Australian Open.
“I’ve gone through a really difficult time with my hip,”Murray said recently:”I miss tennis a lot and would give anything to stand out there again. I have only realized in the last few months how much I love this sport. Every time I wake up, I hope it gets better and better.” The operation on Monday morning was performed by Dr. Dr. John O’ Donnell, an expert in hip surgery.
Murray, until 21. August 2017 number one in the world rankings, expects to be able to hit balls on a tennis court after seven or eight weeks.”My plan is to play again for the grass court season, maybe before that, but I won’t rush into anything,”he said,”When I return home, I want to be sure I’m fit.”
