ATP/WTA: Gojowczyk out of Auckland in eighth-finals – Trio eliminated in Australia

Peter Gojowczyk (Munich) has reached the round of sixteen at the ATP tournament in Auckland. The 28-year-old from Munich won the first round in New Zealand 6:3,4:6,6:3 against the American Tim Smyczek and now meets his compatriot Jack Sock.

A German trio, on the other hand, failed in Australia: Mischa Zverev retired in Sydney in the first round, as did Carina Witthöft, while Anna-Lena Friedsam was in the last sixteen in Hobart. Zverev (Hamburg), number eight of the seed list, was defeated by the Argentinian Leonardo Mayer 5:7,3:6. Witthöft (Hamburg) was beaten by the Australian Samantha Stosur 6-4,5-7,3-6.

Friedsam (Neuwied) lost 5:7,4:6 to the Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu. At the start, the 23-year-old had defeated the Belgian qualifier Alison van Uytvanck 4:6,7:6 (7:4), 6:4.
