Australian Open: Barbara Haas eliminated in first qualifying round

Barbara Haas has already been eliminated in the qualification for the Australian Open and Austria’s best female player was defeated by Chinese Yafan Wang in two sets.

Barbara Haas and Yafan Wang are only four places apart from each other in the WTA World Ranking, the 21-year-old Austrian is just slightly better ranked. The playful differences between the two first-round opponents in the qualification should therefore generally be rather small – which is also reflected in the score of 6:4 and 6:4 for the Chinese.

In the first set, the service went up to 5:4 for Wang, after which Haas had to give up her service for the first time – with a double error. Wang also started better in the second round, leading fast with 2:0. Haas managed to equalise, but immediately allowed her opponent to break again. This time it was a backhand mistake of the Austrian, who gave Wang the 4:2.

Here is the tableau for the women’s qualification
