ATP: Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic win second season title in Auckland

19. Career title for Oliver Marach: The Austrian veteran won the double competition in Auckland alongside Mate Pavic in Doha last week.

Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic lived up to their role as favourites: The Styrian and his Croatian partner defeated the Belarusian veteran Max Mirnyi and Marach’s compatriot Philipp Oswald in the final of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Auckland with 6:4,5:7 and 10:7.

The final of the ASB Classics lasted almost 90 minutes, with both pairings losing their serve twice. For Marach and Pavic it was already the second title of the season: In the previous week they had won the tournament in Doha.

“We have a lot of self-confidence and we played a good match,”said after the win over Mirnyi/Oswald,”Now it’s time to recover and get back on track for Melbourne”.

Pavic underlined the difficulty of Auckland’s task:”This was not an easy match today, especially because of Max,”said Pavic,”He has a lot of experience and a good match. But I think it helped us to get the better start into the match tiebreak.”
