ATP: After a listless performance: Auckland probably retains the sock bonus

Jack Sock upset the organizers at the ATP event in Auckland with a listless performance. As New Zealand media reports, tournament director Karl Budge could withhold the US American’s entry fee.

According to reports from the New Zealand Herald, Sock is unlikely to receive the planned sum of $100,000. In his first match in New Zealand’s capital city, the second round match against German Peter Gojowczyk, Sock was clearly 3-6 and 3-6 down.

The 25-year-old sock played during the match, among other things, an unnecessary blow through the legs and worked in other phases very unconcentrated.

“Any discussions about the inaugural bonuses take place between Jack and us,”said Budge on Sunday,”We have a long-standing relationship with Jack based on mutual support. If we have disagreements, we’ll talk about it.”

The eighth place in the world ranking list also attracted attention during the tournament week due to absences from promised sponsor events. At the press conference after his defeat, he also owed journalists an explanation for his poor performance. Sock still left with a cheque of $11,904 for his second round defeat.

The four-time ATP title holder already withdrew from Yuichi Sugita in his second singles match at the Hopman Cup in Perth, but two days later he played a match against Roger Federer, which he lost in two sets.

The ASB Classic in Auckland is financed mainly by their generous VIP area, which is intended for corporate clients. The organisers are in the black year after year and try to tie future hopes to the tournament early on.

One week before the ATP tournament, which was won by Roberto Bautista Agut against Juan Martin del Potro in the final, a WTA tournament took place at the same venue. Julia Görges celebrated her fifth career title in the final against Caroline Wozniacki.
