Australian Open: Brown and Bachinger qualified for main draw

Dustin Brown and Matthias Bachinger qualified for the Australian Open in Melbourne, which starts on Monday. This means that 17 German tennis pros (10 men, 7 women) are in the two main fields of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year.

Routine Brown (33) won in the decisive match against Stefan Kozlov from the USA 6:4,3:6,6:3, Bachinger (30) defeated Alejandro Gonzalez from Colombia 6:1,6:4. Antonia Lottner (21) from Düsseldorf was the only German player to be eliminated in the second round of qualifying.

For the former Davis Cup player Brown (Winsen/Aller) it’s the fourth time in Melbourne, Bachinger (Munich) is taking part for the third time. The winner of the first round will be decided after the qualification on Sunday. Rainfall had clouded the schedule. Usually the qualification at the Majors is already finished on Saturday evening.
