No Davis Cup: Kohlschreiber does not travel to Brisbane

Philipp Kohlschreiber will not participate in the Davis Cup game after Brisbane (2. till 4. February). The world rankings-29. in consultation with team boss Michael Kohlmann, will not take part in the first round duel with host Australia.

On Monday Kohlschreiber had lost 3:6,6:2,0:6,6:6,6:1,2:6 against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka from Japan at the start of the Australian Open in Melbourne after 2:39 hours. The 34-year-old Augsburger, number 29 in the world rankings, the German number two behind Alexander Zverev (Hamburg), had been weakened by a cold:”I was pretty flat, everything hurts me,”Kohlschreiber said disappointedly before he started his journey home. Kohlmann said,”He wouldn’t be able to help us in this constitution.”

Until 23. On 1 January the captain must announce his squad for the game in Brisbane. In addition to the two Zverev brothers Alexander and Mischa, candidates include Jan-Lennard Struff and Peter Gojowczyk.
