Service: Matchtipp of the day: Dominic Thiem as favourite presented by LeoVegas

Dominic Thiem is the favourite in his opening game at the Australian Open against Guido Pella – the match tip of the day presented by LeoVegas.

Dominic Thiem joins the Australian Open and faces a difficult opening hurdle.

The 24-year-old strikes the Argentinean Guido Pella and has to watch out for the strong forehand of the left-hander. The number 56 in the ranking plays powerful and solid tennis and can develop an enormous tempo from the baseline.

Thiem should, however, be accommodating this circumstance. The Austrian likes a fast game and develops a great dynamic himself.

Before the tournament kicks off, however, there is a big question mark over the constitution of the current number five in the world. Thiem travelled to Melbourne with a cold, which he caught in Doha, and so far has only played a few matches in direct preparation. However, a simulated match under competition conditions with Rafael Nadal Down Under encourages a solid start for the man from Wiener Neustadt.

In a direct comparison, however, Pella is ahead. The 27-year-old won both matches. The first match was won by Pella in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro; the Argentinean in Chengdu last year won his most recent match against Thiem.

Even if the statistic speaks against Thiem – number five is LeoVegas’ favourite betting provider and goes into the match with a odds of 1.28. The underdog’s win is worth 3.70 odds.
