Australian Open: Mischa Zverev gives up in first round

The possible brother duel between Alexander and Mischa Zverev in the third round of the Australian Open already broke on the second day of the tournament.

The 30-year-old Mischa, who was still a quarter-finalist in Melbourne last year, gave up in the first round against Chung Hyeon of South Korea 2-6,1-4. Zverev had already been treated on the batting arm before the match.

The left-handed player loses a lot of points due to the early exit and slips out of the top 50 of the world ranking list after the tournament. In Melbourne, Zverev was seated at position 32.

This means that only four of the ten German players who originally started the game reached the second round: Alexander Zverev (Hamburg), Peter Gojowczyk (Munich), Maximilian Marterer (Nuremberg) and Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein).
