Australian Open: Wozniacki fends off two match balls and prevents an early exit

World ranked leader Caroline Wozniacki has just averted the loss in the second round of the Australian Open. The Danes fought off two match points against Jana Fett from Croatia, number 119 in the ranking, at a score of 1:5 in the third set.

After 2:31 hours in the midday heat of Melbourne, Wozniacki triumphed 3:6,6:2,7:5. The two-time U. S. Open finalist will thus continue to dream of her career’s first Grand Slam title and a return to first place in the world rankings. Last year, Wozniacki celebrated her greatest triumph so far at the WTA final in Singapore. The next opponent of the 27-year-old will be either Kiki Bertens (Netherlands/No. 30) or Nicole Gibbs from the USA.
