Australian Open: Challenged Djokovic fails due to Zverev opponent Chung

Record winner Novak Djokovic (30) has already failed in the last sixteen of the Australian Open. The six-time champion from Serbia was defeated by South Korean Chung Hyeon 6:7 (4:7), 5:7,6:7 (3:7), but was obviously not in full possession of his powers.

During the match, Djokovic was treated on his elbow and right foot, which had been damaged for months. His back had been pinched in the previous round.

Chung (21) continued his run in Melbourne with victory over Djokovic. In the third round, the winner of Milan’s NextGen finals, the season finale of the best U21 players, had already defeated world-ranking fourth-placed Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) in five sets.

In Wednesday’s quarter-finals, Chung will face American Tennys Sandgren, who will be surprised to see his debut in Melbourne. After his successes over the beaten ex-champion Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland) and the Nuremberg Maximilian Marterer Sandgren defeated after 3:54 hours also Dominic Thiem (Austria/No. 5)6:2,4:6,7:6 (7:4), 6:7 (7:9), 6:3.
