Australian Open: Nick Kyrgios:”In good shape despite the finish

The Australian Open is over for Nick Kyrgios – but the Australian seems to be in much better shape than a year ago.

One could clearly see how much he had wanted this victory, but in the end Grigor Dimitrov was too stable. Nick Kyrgios did not break a leg for Nick Kyrgios, even though he was lucky enough to make it another way at this year’s Australian Open. But despite his defeat, Kyrgios said before leaving Melbourne:”I feel confident after this match. I did my best this week, even if it wasn’t enough. I’ve beaten three top opponents.”

Victories over Rogerio Dutra da Silva, Viktor Troicki and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are standing after Melbourne for Kyrgios zubuchen before the end against Dimitrov, one of the extended title contenders,”I lost to one of the best players in the world. Gave everything I could. It’s clear that I feel better than I did a year ago.”

One year ago, Kyrgios was looking for a lot of meaning and only got back on track after the Davis Cup, after which his grandfather’s death in the spring tore him to a new low “After last year’s Australian Open, I didn’t really know what to do. This year I have goals. I’m mentally good at it, I think,” I think he played last year because he just had to do better,”he says,” I didn’t have a coach in the off-season, but I’ve worked on two things I knew they needed to get better: my volleys and the transition to the net – and my forehand return.

The next goal for Kyrgios is also set: the Davis Cup against Germany in two weeks,”That’s what counts now,”said the Brisbane winner.
