Australian Open: Chung after victory over Sandgren in Melbourne semi-final

South Korean Chung Hyeon (21) has continued his triumphant success at the Australian Open and has reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career.

Chung, who had previously beaten Alexander Zverev and record winner Novak Djokovic, defeated Tennys Sandgren (USA) after 2:28 hours 6:4,7:6 (7:5), 6:3.

On Friday the World Rankings 58th. either against defending champion Roger Federer (Switzerland/No. 2) or Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic/No. 19) to enter the final. On Thursday Kyle Edmund (Great Britain) and Marin Cilic (Croatia/No. 6) will be contesting the first semi-finals in Melbourne.

At the preparation tournament in Auckland at the beginning of January Chung had already won against Sandgren. The winner of the NextGen final in Milan, the final tournament of the top U21 pros, is the youngest player in the semi-final of a Grand Slam in eight years and the first South Korean player ever to reach the top four in a Major.
