Angelique Kerber fights against Simona Halep for the Australian Open Final – the “Matchtipp of the day” presented by LeoVegas Sport.
Is that the shape of the third Grand Slam title? It almost seems so! Angelique Kerber is in terribly good form down under and rightly ranks among the top four players of the tournament. The Melbourne winner of 2016 is looking for fatigue in vain and the Kieler seems to increase from lap to lap.
In the quarter-finals Kerber had already played Madison Keys in absolute title form. After 51 minutes Kerber swept the US-American with 6:1 and 6:2 from the place. The strong playing key didn’t stand a chance against the precise performance of the 30-year-olds.
Now Kerber will face world number one Simona Halep. The Romanian is considered to be one of the fittest players of the Tour in the tennis circuit and has already played some exhausting matches at the Australian Open. Especially the third set against Lauren Davis, which the Romanian won by 15:13, proves the fighting abilities of this small powerhouse.
At the beginning of the tournament, Halep had trouble finding his way into the matches and found it hard to find his way – since the last 16, these concerns have been pointless. Osaka and finally in the quarter-finals against Karolina Pliskova, the world number one underpinned their ambitions for the first Grand Slam title in Halep’s trophy collection.
Against an Angelique Kerber in the current form Halep will have to step up again. The German is self-confident in every situation and dictates the rallies – with forehand or backhand. The strength is no longer so much in Kerbers defensive work; forward gear is the new key to success. Against Halep, the 30-year-old will have to consistently use her chances in the offensive to reach the final. Halep will hold on to it with her strong physique and consistently cover the baseline with her fast legs.
For betting provider LeoVegas Sport, the 30-year-old German is the favourite and will start the game with a 1.70 quota. Despite the leading position in the ranking, Halep takes on the role of outsider and gets a quota of 2.20.
