WTA: Caroline Wozniacki: Breathless after St. Peter.

Just a short while ago with the Australian Open Cup in Melbourne – straight on to St. Petersburg? Caroline Wozniacki will probably be back in action this week.

Simona Halep canceled her start at the WTA premier event this week after the gruelling final, but Wozniacki doesn’t seem to take any time off: The new world number one in the rankings will be in St. Peter’s. She is the first in the world to win the WTA Premier Event. Petersburg as top seed in the tableau. After a walk-through, she will meet Tatjana Maria or Anastasia Potapova in round two.

French Open winner Jelena Osapenko is seated at two, followed by Caroline Garcia and defending champion Kristina Mladenovic, who returns from Melbourne with a double triumph and wants to finish in the singles of her defeat series of 15 matches at a time. Thanks to a wildcard in the field: comeback and former number two in the world, Vera Zvonareva, who meets Kiki Bertens. Further first round games, among others: Mona Barthel – Alizé Cornet, Julia Görges – Maria Sakkari, Petra Kvitova – Elena Vesnina. Andrea Petkovic will also play against Roberta Vinci in the qualifying round to make it into the main draw.

Meanwhile, Shuai Peng is in first place at the simultaneous international tournament in Taipei. Sabine Lisicki vs. Yuxuan Zhang will also make her comeback here.

In the men’s event, however, there will be no ATP tournament because the first round of the Davis Cup will take place this weekend. Among other things, Australia meets Germany.
