WTA: After strong Australian Open: Praise from former coach for Kerber

Tennis pro Angelique Kerber has received praise from her former coach Torben Beltz after her strong appearances at the Australian Open.

“Angie has matured considerably,”the 41-year-old told the Hamburger Abendblatt about the former world number one.

Kerber’s reaction after her semi-final defeat against Simona Halep (3:6,6:4,7:9) had shown that this was the case:”She found the positive in the defeat instead of letting herself be pulled down. This is a good sign,”said Beltz, who was unable to catch Kerber’s break-in in 2017. In the new season, the Kieler cooperates with the Belgian Wim Fissette.

Beltz acknowledged his successor’s good work and sees his former player prepared for further strong appearances at the Grand Slam tournaments:”If she plays like in the first few weeks of this season, she can win any tournament.”
