Martina Hingis is considered one of the best troughs in tennis history. Even after her career, the Swiss is still at the top of the double world ranking.
Martina Hingis has been in well-deserved retirement for about three months. The 18-times Grand Slam winner (5 singles, 13 doubles) finished her successful career last year as the number one in the world rankings in doubles – and still is.
Together with her partner Latisha Chan, the Swiss celebrates a second career and has dominated the double scene in recent years. As Chan and her new partner Andrea Hlavachkova failed to make it to the Australian Open in the quarter-finals, Hingis remains at the top of the ranking.
Altogether, the 37-year-old was at the top of the single ranking for 209 weeks and 67 weeks on the double world ranking list – and there are more to come.
With a total of 10130 points, Hingis and Chan have an advantage of 2030 points over second-placed Vesnina/Makarova. As the first phase of last year was not so successful for Hingis, the former top player loses only a few points and can therefore remain in the top 10 for some time in the coming months.
In the future, however, Hingis would like to focus on her role as Fed Cup trainer and not focus on her ranking position.
