WTA: Matchballs blocked!

Former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki won her first match in almost three months after a big fight.

The 28-year-old defeated Zhang Yuxuan from China 6-3,1-6,7-6,7-6 (7-3) at the WTA tournament in Taipei, Taiwan’s capital city. In the third set, she fought off two match points at a score of 1:5 and turned the match around.

Lisicki is the only German tennis player in the main round. The next opponent is either Samantha Stosur (Australia) or Nao Hibino from Japan.

Lisicki had injured his knee in the semi-final in Limoges at the beginning of November and had to undergo surgery later. Only in the week before Limoges she had made her comeback in Luxembourg after a lengthy leg injury. In the world rankings, the former number twelve has meanwhile slipped to position 246.
