Davis Cup: Gerald Melzer opens against Ilja Iwaschka

Gerald Melzer will be on Friday at VAZ St. Pölten inaugurate Austria’s first round duel in the European/African Zone I of the Davis Cup against Belarus. That was the result of the draw on Thursday. Melzer is confronted with Ilja Ivaschka before Dominic Thiem is challenged against Dzmitri Zhyrmont.

After a change of mode, Davis Cup matches below the World Group will only be played in two days and on two sets of wins. On Saturday (from 13.00 hrs) the doubles and the remaining two singles will be on the programme.

ÖTV captain Stefan Koubek nominated Australian Open winner Oliver Marach and Philipp Oswald for the double. They play against the duo Sergei Betov/Andrei Vasilevskiy, changes are still possible until one hour before the start of the game.

The winner from Austria against Belarus will play in the 2nd round. Round 6/7. April against Russia, the Austrians would go abroad.
