WTA: St.

Julia Görges won the WTA-Tournament in St. Gallen. Petersburg reached the quarter-finals with ease. The 34 year old Italian Roberta Vinci defeated number five of the seed list 7-5,6-0 and thus celebrated her first victory in her fourth duel with the former US Open finalist.

The next opponent of Görges in the competition worth 799,000 dollars is 18-year-old Russian qualifier Jelena Rybakina.

For 29-year-old Görges, who scored a total of ten aces against Vinci, it was the 17th minute. Victory in the last 18 matches. At the Australian Open she had already failed surprisingly in round two at the French Alize Cornet. Cross-seasonally, Görges had won the tournaments in Moscow, Zhuhai and Auckland in series and was one of Melbourne’s favourites.

On Tuesday was in St.. Petersburg Andrea Petkovic defeated the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round. Mona Barthel and Tatjana Maria had already failed on Monday to start the race.
