The former world number one Novak Djokovic (30) has been operated on the right elbow after months of problems. That was confirmed by the Serbian on Friday.
Previously, the tabloid Blick from Switzerland had published a photo showing Djokovic with an association on his right hand at the racetrack clinic in Basel. There was also speculation about an operation in Prague.
After a six-month break, Djokovic was eliminated from the Melbourne Grand Slam Tournament in the last 16 against Chung Hyeon of South Korea and obviously didn’t have the full power to do so,”I’ve missed the competition, he’s in my blood. That’s why I had to try the Australian Open,”Djokovic wrote on his homepage.
After the end, he tried different methods and decided a few days ago for a “small medical operation on the elbow”. For two years now, the pain would have accompanied him, the twelve-time Grand Slam winner said, hoping to be “on a good path to full recovery”. However, it is a “long journey”, said Djokovic.
The former protégé of the German tennis icon Boris Becker left open when he returns to the tour. In the world rankings, Djokovic is only 13th. He celebrated his last of a total of 68 tournament victories at the Eastbourne grass court tournament last summer, despite the pain in his elbow. Djokovic won his last Grand Slam title in June 2016 at the French Open in Paris.
