ATP: Tears of the Ex-Enfant-Terrible for the Maestro

Roger Federer’s success has also moved athletes from other disciplines – such as a former Italian top footballer.

Antonio Cassano and tears – this is a combination that many Italian football fans are all too familiar with. The occasions for which Cassano, who has officially been under contract with Hellas Verona since 2017, but has not yet played a match there) which moved Tifosi to tears of joy, were rather scarce, however – the now 35-year-old had more likely once again caused an escapade for the supporters of the AS Roma, Sampdoria Genuas, Real Madrid or both.

But, and the well-known Cassano at the beginning of the week in an interview with Italia 1, he is also a man of great feelings – not afraid to show them.

“I cried twice during the last six months,”explained Cassano,”at the farewell of Francesco Totti and last Sunday at Federer’s victory. I sweat more than I ever did when I was playing. I’m a big Federer fan and have become very emotional.”

Contrary to Totti, who ended his career last summer after an incredible 24 years in the jersey of the professional AS Rome team, there is no end in sight for the maestro’s career. I can’t imagine how Antonio Cassano would react to that.

In any case, Federer will be spending the next few days with his family and friends in Switzerland. This was explained by the 20-times Grand Slam Champion after his arrival at Zurich Airport on Thursday, where Federer was expected by a large crowd of fans. He would be tempted to go skiing, but he would suppress this impulse. Too great they risk injury, according to Federer.
