WTA: Babos swims on wave of success: Hungarian wins Taipei title

Timea Babos has won the WTA tournament in Taipei, China. The 24-year-old gave her opponent Kateryna Kozlova no chance in the final.

Timea Babos is currently on cloud seven. After her double title with Kristina Mladenovic at the Australian Open, the Hungarian also plays big in the singles. In Taipei, the 24-year-old rushed into the final with only one set loss. Against Kateryna Kozlova Babos didn’t let anything burn and finally won the tournament 7:5 and 6:1.

For the lady from Sopron, it is the third career title in the individual competition. Last year Babos triumphed in her homeland and snatched the trophy in Budapest. As early as 2015, Babos struck in Taipei and won the tournament, which at that time was still part of the Challenger Tour.

With this latest success, the 24-year-old will take a further step towards the top 30 of the world ranking in the singles. In the double ranking, the specialist is currently in fifth place, having made up two places after the coup in Melbourne.
